| A Retreat to the Workshop's Roots
15 years ago, the practices that gave birth to The Writer's Workshop started in a yoga and writing retreat. I'm delighted to be able to offer a few spots in a select retreat to echoe that experience, partnered with the same yoga teacher. Join Charles MacInerney and I to write and stretch ourselves over a weekend, with daybreak yoga, lively exercises, meals to build community and cozy nights in private rooms, all in the glory of the Texas spring.
Cedarbrake Renewal Center
Our setting is the quiet woods and budding grounds of Cedarbrake Renewal Center, just an hour north of Austin. Each of you will have your own room and private bath, plus meals cooked by an Austin chef. We'll gather on Friday to start with the Workshop's classic homestyle pasta and sauce, make our way toward organic rice pudding breakfast, then dive into chef's creations for the rest of the sumptous weekend. We will open our voices with movement, to ease into writing sacred and surprising.
A weekend to do whatever comes
Our weekend will include gentle yoga in sessions offered morning, midday and evening relaxations, combined with the natural writing sessions that let every voice emerge and meet praise for its promise. Cedarbrake is a place of spirit, one that can stir you create and expand your self. You have many opportunities to practice yoga or writing, or just relax and enjoy the beauty and serenity of our setting. Like our invitation to "write whatever comes," this is a weekend to do whatever comes -- yours to sample, shape and enjoy.
A menu of moments you will carry away
Whether you're a brand-new writer or one experienced and ready to experiment, whether you practice yoga and meditation daily or want to dip your toes into the waters of movement, our methods will bring fresh light to your limbs and warmth to your words. We share in a rich circle of the joy of practice, without judgement and within a safe space. I can remember how amazing this blend of yoga and writing felt when I left that first retreat all those years ago. I was moved to mark the changes I felt. "Combining the physical limbering of Yoga genuinely stretched my creativity," I said. "I touched parts of my talent I was not able to reach before."
